The Goal of Directed Research
I've done directed research in VINT (Virtual InterNetwork Testbed ) project with Dr.Heidemann in 1999 Summer. It was about simulating network protocols, focused on TCP. ns (network simulator) and nam (network animator) are used to implement them. Here are brief summary of what I did.
As a MS student of CSCN (Computer Science-Computer Networks), this Directed Research was meaningful. In this research, I couldn learn how the protocols operate, and how I could show those operations visually. While I'm working, I've tried to show the operations of each protocol clearly, so that others can understand them easily.
2. Description of works :
1) Studying
protocols in detail
Stop-n-way, Sliding-window, and TCP
2) Generate traces and visualizing them using nam (network animator)
3) Comparing those protocols through a simulation
4) Implement "sliding window" protocol
5) Make scripts simply for others to understand protocols easily
All of the examples written in tcl exist in /usr/src/mash/repository/vint/nam-1/edu
