ns (v2.1b4) and ns-allinone(v2.1b4) release
Ns 2.1b4 and ns-allinone 2.1b4 have now been released !
WHAT'S NS?
----------
Ns is a discrete event simulator targeted at networking research.
It provides substantial support for simulation of TCP, routing, and
multicast protocols.
Ns began as a variant of the REAL network simulator in 1989 and has
evolved substantially over the past few years. The ns development
effort is now an ongoing collaboration with the VINT project.
WHAT'S NS-ALLINONE?
----------
Ns-allinone is a package which contains required components and some of
optional components used in running ns. The package contains an
"install" script to automatically configure, compile and install these
components. If you haven't installed ns before and want to quickly try
ns out, ns-allinone may be easier than getting all the pieces by hand.
WHAT'S NEW IN NS 2.1b4?
--------------------
New features in this version include:
- Test-suites: More validation tests for NewReno, Hierarchical
routing, srm, intserv.
- Algorithmic routing: Better scaling with Algorithmic routing support in
both detailed as well as session simulator.
- Web server/cache/client implementation: web server/cache/client with
documentation and test suite.
- Application level APIs: Revised test suites and example scripts for the
new APIs.
- Lans: Changes made to Berkeley lans to create virtual-lans (more
scalable, supports multicast in lans).
- scenario generator: an improved scenario-generator now in both ns and
ns-allinone. Addition of a scenario-library to ns.
- Session sim: Now has added support for hierarchical routing.
- Many_tcp traffic model as part of ns library.
- Addition of routing table size to be used as a label for nam
visualizations.
- Various portability fixes (for windows, HPUX).
- Several bugs fixes (calendar-sceduler, tcp-asym-sink, hier-rtg etc)
