nam dosent work

Hi

i am a new user of ns-2.i have installed 
nsallinone~-1.b4a on my linux system and
when i execute nam it produce an error 
like this:

nam:no display nam and no $display environment variable
segmentation fault(core dumped).

i have x window on my system but it dosent work.does nam need x window
or not?what can i do?
please help me.
