Download and build the recent snapshots.
Use recent wireless code - right now only wireless links and lans get
to have MAC layers, so I'd guess you're going to be using wireless
nodes heavily, since there's not that much you can do easily with LANs
beyond CSMA/CD (ch. 13 in NsDoc).
Read the CMU Monarch stuff (ch. 15 in NsDoc - ignore the online HTML
version, because the two versions of ch. 15 showing there seem
slightly screwy), and take a look at how they implemented 802.11.
