Re: [ns] Wireless simulations

First of all, it would definately be better if you download and compile
either the snapshot or the allinone package including ns-2.1b7a. There have
been a lot of changes in the wireless parts of ns since the ns-2.1b7
release. That's my 2-pennies worth, as for the 802.11 stuff, I presume and
have been told (and hope) that it is very accurate (if not my project is
crap). From what I have used it has been. Your best bet is to sign up with
the mailing list and look at the posts. A large portion of them relate to
wireless medium and routing.

I am myself trying to write a new MAC protocol for optical wireless and IP,
and am getting a little stuck at the moment, not quite sure how to decipher
the 802.11 MAC traces, which parameters to vary to get it to work the best
(sounds like that part you might be help with) and how to write a new MAC
to simulate, so any help from you when you get your feet back on the ground
would be grateful

Don't know whether you have looked at the Marc Greiss tutorials, but they
are quite good as well - the most recent ones are on the net on the ns site.
The mobile IP one on the http site does not work so if you try it don't
stress when it doesn't, but apparently they have changed the code on the
download. If not, there is an example of how to build a scenario with mobile
IP in the ns directors tcl/ex/ I think it is called wireless-mip.tcl -
whichever one looks like that filename

Good luck
