[ns] emulation question

hi,everybody
i've find a example file about emulation named thrutcp.tcl in ns doc.i
read it and have some question.pls give me a hand,thx.
one:
i want to emulate passing traffic througth ns,so i need three machines as the ns help said,but there are five nodes in the example thrutcp.tcl.i don't know if one physical node matched two logical nodes.
two:
if machine c run nse,machine a and machine b as ftp client and ftp sever,respectively,do the two machines running ftp application use windows os?
three:
i want to add some other test condition,but i don't know how to do?

in all,please help me ,give me some related emulation detail documents and some examples
