[ns] TCP Over Satellite (MPEG2 Transport Streams)
Hello,
I am looking to simulate TCP performance over satellite networks (who
isn't), but I am not really interested in fully simulating a satellite
channel per se. I would like to examine TCP performance over a high latency
satellite link when TCP/IP packets are encapsulated into 188 byte MPEG-2
transport stream packets (using ASI). The return channel would be over a
100 Mbps LAN, to simulate an asymetric link. The link would look as follows:
[TCP/IP Server] ---100 Mbps, low latency---->[IP to Mpeg-2
encapsulator]------ 30 Mbps, 500 ms delay ---->[ Mpeg-2 to IP] --- 100 Mbps,
low latency ----> [TCP/IP Client]
The return link would connect the TCP/IP server to the client with a 100
Mbps LAN, hence the asymetry.
Obviously what I am focusing on is the effects of encapsulation into MPEG-2
packets, as well as a high latency link, and asymetry.
Is there existing code out there for IP encapsulation into MPEG-2 packets,
and hence code to simulate the MPEG-2 transport stream protocol ? If so,
know where I can find it ?
Thanks greatly in advance,
John Graumann
