[ns] time for last packet in a link

Hi,
I am using a simulation network which usees the reliable multicast
protocol, PGM, in ns2.1b2. I need to find the time when the simulation
completes, which i guess corresponds to the time the last packet traversed
a particular link. i tried looking through the ns-users archives, but
could not find anything. Can anyone help me out with this?
i tried using the trace files and looking at the last entry, but as the
simulation gets bigger, the trace files are very large and it is
notpossible to output the trace file and then look at it. any other way?
