CONSER Project Overview
Collaborative Simulation for Education and Research
(CONSER) proposes to develop infrastructure addressing two compelling needs
in networking today:
-
Research in the development and evaluation
-
Teaching of existing networking concepts and
protocols of new networking protocols
We will build on ns
and nam, the network simulator
and animator developed at LBL and extended and distributed by the VINT
project (a collaboration between USC/ISI, LBL, Xerox PARC, and UCB). Ns
is very widely used by the networking community and is widely regarded
as a critical component of research infrastructure. Continued success of
ns as a research tool requires an ongoing commitment protocol support and
integration, and full exploitation of ns for protocol education requires
new development. We propose to meet these goals by:
-
Integrating simulation modules to support understanding in
new protocol domains.
-
Continuing ns as a platform for dissemination of recent research
results.
-
Supporting ns as simulation infrastructure for the community
through regular releases, bug fixes, and tutorials.
-
Enhancing nam as a visualization and scenario creation tool
for classroom and laboratory use.
-
Developing courseware to illustrating network concepts using
simulation and animation.
