Real-time traffic generation via Socket

Hi,

I would like to implement the external interface between ns and other
simulator.
I want to put real-time input from another simulator into ns.
I think I can use socket somewhere in ns.
Should I create new Application, Traffic generator or Trace?

I'll be very appreciated for any idea.
