[ns] Getting neighbor list

Hi,

   I need to implement a management protocol at application layer for
Ad-hoc wireless networks. For this i need to have access to
current/updated neighbor list at each node. Can any one please let me know
does any other lower layers maintain this information for them to work.. i
mean any routing agents or MAC layer maintain this information. And also
how to access it.
   I did see neighbor method of node object. Does it work for wireless
networks?? If it works what kind of neighbor information it gives..
